Since my initial posting in April I am pleased to say that JL Technical Cust Supp provided a full refund on my TX1138 bought in approx 2007.

I was offered a newer lesser spec machine from JL online but it didnt have all the requirements I was looking for so they kindly provided a full refund so that I could find a machine myself.

I doubt I would have got this far without the useful information on this site. So now after suffering over a year with the TX1138 I can finally put closure on this and get a decent machine.

Big thankyou to all that made this poss ! :!

Hello,

Well done on your success :! :! :! :!

I am really pleased that you have reached this positive resolution and that you managed to secure a full refund.

I have to say that apart from the odd hiccup John Lewis have been pretty fair with their customers so well done to them for that.

I a glad that you found us and that we were able to help you.

Well done again and all the very best for the future. :! :! :! :!

Best wishes

:! :! Another John Lewis Success :! :!

I have never joined any forum / posted points of views etc, but felt I had to as so pleased with our outcome thanks to info on your pages.

Had HP DV6331ea. Purchased in 2007. The wireless card / adapter failed at the end of Summer 2010, you know the story! Machine finally failed in Feb 2011. Took it to local engineer to confirm the defect. Whilst the machine was in, i stumbled upon your fantastic forum and the steps to recover costs / machine through the 'Sale of Goods Act'.

We had no receipt to offer as proof of purchase, however could tie the machine to JL with card statements and some delivery paperwork as it had been in for a repair just under a year after purchase (motherboard / BOIS upgrade!!). On a successful call to HP (?) they could confirm that the model manufacture date was April 2007. (In Scotland the Sale of Goods Act only covers 5yrs - think its 6 elsewhere??). Anyhoo dragged my heels a bit putting things together, but sent bundle off (history of the fault / card statement / delivery paperwork / info on nvidia defect / list of affected machines / engineers report / extract from Sales of Goods Act)to JL Customer Services (Exeter) and also to local store where purchased. It was posted recorded delivery. The very next day I received a call from JL Customer Services stating that i did have a case, and they'd be back in touch once they had checked a few things through. The next week they called back looking to email the spec of a replacement laptop, a modern equivalent of what we bought 4 yrs ago. It was another HP and a great spec. £100 less than what we paid for the old machine. They also offered the full replacement cost of our old machine, in case we had bought something else. You do the maths - we accepted the refund. Took the machine (minus hard drive - as this was extacted to retrieve files) to the store a few days later, and they refunded the full cost back onto our chosen card.

John Lewis could not have been any more efficient and easy to work with. Won't think twice about buying again from them. Of course all this was made easier by the great advice you give on your site.

Thank You.

Hello Alan,

Well done on your success. :! :! :! :!

I have to say, I am hearing more and more good reports about John Lewis which is excellent news and it should be a standard some of the other high street retailers (mentioning no names) should try and follow.

It is excellent news that you secured a 100% refund after purchasing in 2007, that refund will buy you a much better laptop than you had.

Thank you for your kind words in your post, much appreciated.

Well done again, I am really pleased for you. :! :! :! :!

Best wishes

Paul
