Well, if you took out finance then you would be covered under the Consumer Credit Act and could also make a claim against the finance company.

In the first instance you will need to pursue Staples and if you have no success then you will need to contact the finance company.

To be honest though Staples are very good and unlike most of the other high street retailers do not seem to throw down obstacles to try and thwart their customers attempts at securing their rights in law.

I can appreciate why Staples wanted proof of purchase, this is a basic necessity and I am glad that you are now in a position to pursue your claim.

The only viable solution for you would be a replacement laptop of the same specification as your current laptop.



No, your claim would only be valid from the date that you first reported the fault to Staples.

If you have taken some time from the date of failure to the time you reported the failure then you would lose those months if you were to accept a partial refund.

But as I stated previously, due to the fact that you purchased the laptop on finance and have paid a significant amount in interest then a partial refund would be unacceptable unless the whole finance amount is considered to be the purchase amount. I think that you will find that Staples will only use the purchase price at the time and will not include any interest paid when considering a partial refund.

You could always contend this issue and if you get nowhere with Staples should then take it up with the finance company.

Whichever offer Staples make it has to reflect the true cost to you of the laptop.

Partial success - Staples coughed up the full cost of the laptop. Barclays (the Finance Company) are refusing to look at a complaint.

I know you stated it was a partial success because Barclays are refusing to look at your complaint, but at least you got all your money back.

Sometimes the banks and credit card companies can be unbelievably dense when it comes to complaints, I am not quite sure whether they do this on purpose.

But that is irrelevant now as you have all your money back so well done on that
