Hello

My story so far.

I bought a HP laptop from Comet in early 2007. A few weeks ago it developed the Nvidia defect. I have followed the advice from Paul given on this site. (Thanks Paul top job). Last week I sent the engineer report from Lapcure to Comet.

Today I received a call from Comet offering a free repair by HP. I said I would talk to HP but I didn't think they could repair it. 4 hours later I get another call from Comet saying HP would replace the laptop.

I have not spoken to HP yet so I don't know if the offer is for new, a refurb, a different model or what.

Has anyone else been made this offer yet?

Sean.

Hello Sean,

Well, congratulations are nearly in order - only the fine details to go and you are there :!

It is difficult to know what HP will offer you, but you should ensure that it matches or betters the specification of your current model.

You do not want the same model of laptop for obvious reasons so I would guess that it will be a different model but difficult to know whether they will offer a new or refurb unit.

They say the devil is in the detail so I would check to see exactly what they are offering before making any decisions.

I look forward to your next update.

Best wishes

Paul

HP have offered me this http://h40059.www4.hp.com/uk/homelaptop ... nce=direct to replace my 3 year old laptop. Well happy.

But without wanting to sound petty what about my £65 for the enginners report. Should I pursue it and with who or should I just consider myself lucky.

Thoughts anyone.

Hello Sean,

Well, to be honest that is a good result.

I would still tell Comet that you expect them to refund the cost of the report, but if they refuse then I would probably write it off as a judge could rule that you had acted unreasonably in progressing to court. If he did rule this then you would probably not be able to recover the court costs.

If you consider that you could have received a partial refund then even with the cost of the engineers report it would have fallen short of the cost of the replacement that they have offered.

I would recommend that you give them a call just to see if they will refund the report graciously. If not then I would draw a line under the whole matter.

What do you think?

Best wishes

I have had some time to think about this and I agree with you.

It's a great result. A new computer of a higher spec than my 3 1/2 year old machine and at most all I spent was £65.

Thanks for all your help.

Keep up the good work.

Final update.

Comet has refunded my £65 for the Engineer's report.

Persistence pays off.
