Purchased direct from HP Store, my HP G6065ea laptop failed after 18 months. Online support will not offer a free repair, only an out of warranty one at a cost of around £270 with only a 3 month guarantee so they've no chance. I have written 3 times to HP head ofice including sending a copy of engineers report from Lapcure and guess what? no response at all. So tomorrow I am filing case at County Court for full refund or replacement along with costs. Wish me luck.

Good luck Nortee, and don't forget to claim the 8% interest.

Once you have filed your claim you will probably receive a phone call from a HP Solicitor offering you a free repair.

Take a read of this post in order to make your mind up on whether to accept such an offer:- what-you-should-do-if-you-are-offered-a-repair-t346.html

Also, don't forget to add some money on for your time researching the problem. Say 10 hours at £7 per hour should be reasonable.

Good luck again and all the best.

Filed claim at Wigan County Court, received letter from HP's solicitors 3 days later saying they intend to defend the full claim. Funny how they can reply now when all my previous correspondence was ignored. Bring it on I say.

Hello Nortee,

Isnt it amazing that HP can suddenly reply once the legal papers hit their letterbox.

They are dealing with this problem like a backstreet, third rate company and they should be thoroughly ashamd of themselves.

The way they have treated their customers and the way they have covered this problem up makes them more like Bodge it and Scarper PLC than an international company.

Shame on you HP.

Best wishes

Paul

Cheers Ralph for the offer of support, but you're right, not needed. Got a letter this morning from HP's solicitors offering a full refund and my court fees and engineers report. Can't get the smile off my face. My thanks to all on here and the guys at Lapcure. If you have same problem, don't be afraid to go for it, they will stonewall you until you get serious i.e. file court papers, but we are in the right and they know it. :D

Great news :D

I think that's the first success I've seen on the same model as mine (it's just a shame that Paul couldn't prove for certain that mine was the GPU causing the problem  - still at least I can get my own back by offering advice on here :D )

I do love it when a large company panics as soon as they get a County Court summons

Hi Nortee

I have had the same issue myself with HP direct in that Paul has prepared an engineers report confirming my DV9560ea is a useless brick and no response whatsover from HP! My next action is county court so hopefully my outcome will be the same as yours.

I did out of courtesy try to call HP (The Managing Directors PA) who again wouldn't budge even though I have proved the laptop fault to be down to nvidia issue. They just laughed the court action off and said "Good luck with that"

Unfortunately for me I have another DV9000 laptop which is faulty and covered by the extended warranty but not sure what to do with this one yet as I do not want it repaired with flawed parts.

Not to worry! All you need to do is to ask them for the part number of the mainboard that they will be using to repair your laptop.

We need this to check if the mainboard they are using is a new board or if it is one of the old board. It doesn't matter which it is as the chances are it will still contain one of the defective GPU's.

The next thing you should do is to ask the retailer for a written guarantee, on their company headed paper that states the following:-

"The mainboard being used to repair your laptop is from a completely new batch and is 100% free from the Nvidia defect. If, at any time in the future, it transpires that the mainboard is inherently defective due to the Nvidia GPU, then a refund or replacement laptop will be offered."

If they are not prepared to give you this written guarantee then I would reject any offer of a repair and would proceed to litigation.

It is scandalous that HP have failed to resolve your situation regarding your other laptop.

I just re-read your report and it quite clearly states that not only is your laptop inherently defective, but HP were fully aware of the potential for its premature failure as early as 25th March 2008 when they released their "band-aid" fix of a BIOS update.

I wouldn't waste any more time on them and would proceed straight to litigation.

It is the only language they seem to understand.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul

I have now just submitted the claim form so I will keep you updated as to any progress. In regard to my 2nd laptop I have an issue in that it was bought for me as a gift by a former employer so cannot provide a receipt! Where would I stand with that? Also do I wait until this one is resolved before hitting them again so to speak?

Thanks

Gary
