i have the hp pavillion dv9500ea and have had problems will the display driver failing and the laptop randomly turning off. I bought my laptop in 2007 from comet and have been told by a friend with a similar problem that i can claim some money back if i have a engineers report .
i believe that this is the graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce 7150M, is it part of the defect?i don't have a receipt but i do have a bank statement .
Does anyone have any advice on the next step to take.

many thanks.

Hello Westy74 and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

The fact that you don't have a receipt is not a problem as the bank statement will prove purchase just nicely.

The 7150 is indeed also failing either due to the Nvidia defect or due possible to the BGA grid underneath the GPU.

If you can let me know the P/N from the white barcode label on the underside of the laptop then I will see if I can find out any further information.

Have you contacted Comet yet and if so what have they said?

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you follow my advice in that guide then you will reach a positive resolution.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Best wishes

Hello Westy,

I have some good news for you, if you can call it good news.

I did a quick check on HP's support website and saw this:- http://tinyurl.com/65ezteq

This is the BIOS update page for your laptop.

On he 25th March 2008 HP released a BIOS update for your model of laptop. The purpose of this update, according to the HP support site, was:-

Quote:
Updates the fan-control algorithm for the system to reduce the likelihood of future system issues.

This proves that as early as 25th March 2008 HP must have been aware of the potential for your laptop to overheat, otherwise why release a BIOS update that would switch the fans on continuously to the detriment of the battery?

You were still within your guarantee period when this update was released so HP really should have contacted to you inform you of the potential for the premature failure of your laptop.

This enhances your claim against Comet so that can only be good.

I hope the above helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul
