Laptop Make: HP
Model: 2750ea
Graphics Card: 8400M GS
Amount Paid: 0
Date Purchased: 10 Jun 2009
Date Failed: 20 May 2010
I've had a look around the forum and haven't had any success finding a similar situation to mine.

I originally bought a hp dv2104eu from staples in 2006/7 which ran fine. In 2009 my parents house was broken into and my laptop was stolen. The Insurance company tried to fob me off with a couple of lesser models and eventually after some haggling I managed to get a "like for like" upgrade to a hp pavillion dv2750ea.

In May the screen stopped functioning properly in a similar fashion to this problem hp-pavilion-dv2750ea-bought-from-pc-world-in-may-08-t117.html

Reading the aforementioned topic I can see that there is an inherent defect with the Nvidia chip but my situation is now that I am unsure who I am supposed to return the laptop to. On the reverse side there is a label with "1 year warranty" written on it and as luck would have it the laptop is just over 1 year old.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I return to uni for my final year in September and require the use of my computer.

Thanks in advance, Nathan

Hello Nathan and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the trouble you are experiencing with your laptop.

Well, in your case it is the insurance company that is responsible as they are the ones who provided you with the laptop.

They may try and fob you off and wriggle out of their responsibility, but at the end of the day they furnished you with a laptop that is inherently defective.

I would contact the insurance company and inform them that the laptop they supplied you is inherently defective and that you want a replacement laptop. You should explain that repairs are out of the question due to the unavailability of reliable parts.

You could even refer them here.

If they start to pay hard ball you should ask them for the name and address of where you can send legal correspondence as you will have no choice but to sue them for providing you with a defective laptop.

You will need to obtain an engineers report to prove that your laptop is inherently defective. Please let me know when you are ready to proceed as this is a service we provide.

Once you have the report you should send the insurance company a copy. If they still fail to comply then you should sue them.

At the end of the day they supplied you with a defective laptop that failed within the warranty period.

I would call the insurance company first thing tomorrow to start the ball rolling.

If you need any help or advice along the way then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
