Hi there, just joined the forum after searching around and seems like a good place :D

anyways let me cut to the chase

I bought a laptop from Currys, a dv9700 in 2008.(or HP Pavilion dv9850ea Entertainment Notebook PC according to the sticker)

Anyways it all seemed fine but this year when i was playing games it started crashing, either i turn it on and the screen is blank or the 1st start up for the day it crashes and i get the blue screen of death (also the hp logo at the beginning is always a bit buggy looking) but after that it does run (poorly might i add) games i play seem to run much slower than b4, its unbearable!!!!

Also the screen might just go all buggy and basicaly cant do anything

i dont have a receipt but it was bought by my moms debit card over the counter for £800, should i start by going to the store i bought it and argue the toss about it to them? (when i mean argue i mean in a civil polite manner :P)

thanks in advanced

Hello Nemesis and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your laptop.

The problems you describe are manifestations of the defect so I would say that it is highly likely that your laptop is inherently defective.

Your first step is to get a copy of the bank statement that shows the transaction as you will have to prove purchase. If you don't have the statement then you will need to contact the bank to get a copy.

Next it will need to be you mum who makes the first contact with Currys as she was the one who purchased the laptop. Once she has made the initial contact she can request that all further dealings are conducted through yourself.

Once you have got that out of the way you should tell Currys that your laptop has failed due to what you believe to be an inherent defect in the Nvidia GPU.

They may tell you that you are out of warranty. You should tell them that your warranty status is irrelevant as you have six years to take action against a retailer when the goods in question are inherently defective.

They may then tell you to contact HP. You should tell them that your contract is with Currys and not HP so it is up to Currys to resolve the situation.

Don't let them fob you off; be polite, stand your ground and be persistent and you will reach a positive resolution.

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you receive a refund or replacement laptop and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you have any questions of if you need any advice then please let me know.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

If you let me know the exact date of purchase and the date that you reported the failure to the retailer then I will calculate what you can expect to receive back by way of a refund.

Best wishes
