What a fantastic forum! As with other subscribers my screen suddenly went black - never more to reappear! I went to PC World who agreed that it was the graphics card but at the time offered no advice. I then found your forum and the excellent step by step guide and once more took the laptop to PC World where the technician this time immediatley said " Blank screen?" My model is apparently no on the defective list.
He gave me the Head Office address and relevant phone numbers and I have now been offered vouchers to the sum of £265.00.

My question is this. Is this an appropriate amount? I paid £499.99 and purchased the laptop 5/9/2008. It succumbed to the Nvidia defect 18/8/10.

Hello Cairnsclan and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you have experienced with your laptop.

Their offer is way below what you are entitled to as you should be offered almost just over 3/5's of the purchase price which I calculate to be circa £308.

I would tell them that in order to prevent litigation they need to increase their offer to the minimum amount that you would receive if you went to court, which as I mention above would be £308.

Be firm but polite and be persistent as this is the key to success.

They may waffle a bit but you should get there if they believe you will take legal action if they don't.

Good luck and please keep us updated on your progress.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

I've now sent PC World a letter as yuou suggested and now await a response. As I posted it Monday 4/10 I hope to receive a reply within the next couple of days. How much leeway to I give them to respond before moving on to the next step?
