Hello!!!
I have bought my laptop HP Pavilion dv6000 from COMET in april 2007. Just after 1 year manufacturer warranty my laptop broke, screen gone. Went to the street engenier to repait it. It cost me 90 Pounds to repair grafic cheap. Engenier put me 30 days on this repair, on 35th day screen gone again, went to this engenier again and they repair me for free this time. All was fine until this summer. Sometimes volume LED`s lights didn not work, sometimes could not switch on laptop. 10th of August I coul dnot switch on the lapto at all, screen was black, went to see another engenier to repair it again, but have been told this is fault of Nvidia grafic card and been introduced to this forum.
Have sent letter to the Comet asking for refund or replacement. In couple days recieved a letter from them asking for all laptop details and a purchase receipt. After all information I gave them had a phone call from customer department team offering me a "repair free of charge and a free month warranty will be given on the completed repair".
Also they put:"The replacement parts used in the repair will be free from the original defect, however should your laptop fail following repair and it is confirmed the parts used are defective then Comet will agree to echange your item. "
I am not happy with this offer couse we have done repairs before and they did not long last.
Please could you give an advice what to do next. I am prepaired to go to court. Also what about the independant engenier`s report. Do we have to do it. Please answer ASAP
Thank you very much for you advice.

P.S sorry for any mistakes

Hello Ram and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you have been experiencing with your laptop.

I would refuse their offer of a repair as there are, in my opinion, no reliable parts available.

Your next step is to obtain an engineers report to prove the inherent defect in your laptop.

For further information on how to obtain an engineers report please see here:- need-an-independant-engineers-report-t62.html

There is also a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

You should start at step 3 in the above guide as you have already completed steps 1 and 2.

If you can let me know the exact model number I will be able to see if I can find any further information regarding your laptop. The model number can be found on the underside of the laptop on the white barcode label.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Hello Ram,

Well, that is your serial number and it is the model number that I need.

The model number will start DV6???EA and is printed on the same label as the serial number. Alternatively the P/N will do.

Looking at your serial number I can see that your laptop was manufactured in China in week 8 of 2007 which was slap bang when all the defective GPU's were being used.

If you can let me know the model or P/N I will see if I can find any more information.

Best wishes

Paul

Hello Ram,

Thank you for providing the extra information.

I have good news for you!

Your model is recognised by HP as being inherently defective and verification can be found here:- http://tinyurl.com/35pxuxf (just look for your part number which is RW774EA)

HP also released a BIOS update for your laptop on the 30th November 2007. The purpose of this update, according to the HP website was to:-

Quote:
Updates the fan control algorithm of the system to reduce the likelihood of future system issues.

This update can be found here:- http://tinyurl.com/38b3och

This update is marked as critical, which basically means that HP need you to update your BIOS ASAP.

This proves that as early as the 30th November 2007 that HP were well aware of the potential for your laptop to fail through overheating - why else did they release a BIOS update that switches the fans on 24/7 to the detriment of your battery.

HP and Comet really should have informed you of the potential for your laptop to overheat. Considering the fact that you could have suffered burns from using the laptop I think it was quite irresponsible of them not to have.

You are therefore lucky insofar as your case is pretty clear cut and not at all had to prove.

I would contact Comet and point out to them that your laptop is on the "HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement" and so your laptop is recognised as being inherently defective.

I would tell them that you are not interested in a repair and that only a refund or replacement laptop will suffice.

You should also tell them that you have seen all the successes against them in this forum and so you are confident of success if they were to fail to comply.

Start off with the above and see what they say and then pop back here and let me know and I will advise further.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

HI Paul,
I have contacted COMET customer service. Did explain everything what you said. Did ask for a refund or at least replacement. Did have a refusse answer. Comet only can offer a repair of laptop. Did tell them that I am going to put claim to Court if they will not comply with me. His answer was straight forward - ''OK, see you in a court.''
Paul could you please inform me what to do next and do we have to obtain engenier's report.
Thank you very much for your support in this matter.
Best Regards,
Ram

Hello Ram,

How typically unprofessional of Comet - no change there then. If they think that they can go to court and win then they are living on a different planet to you and I.

Your next step is the engineers report which you will need to proceed to court. In order to proceed with an engineers report please take a look here:- need-an-independant-engineers-report-t62.html

There is also a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

Once you have the report then the next stage is to send Comet a copy along with a final letter before action. If they fail to respond within seven days then you should sue them. If your laptop is indeed inherently defective then you really cannot lose.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul
