Hi all,

I'm new to this board and read some articles allready. I'm not exactly sure if this is the meaning of this forum here but I'll post my case in brief words here.

I have a HP Pavilion 9850 with a Gforce 8400 card. From the first day this HP machine has had problems with overheating. If you put it on a table directly and see some video's it turned off because of overheating.

Recently the laptop crashed several times with a white screen after one hour of usage and could only be used the next day.

Now, after a little more than 2 years the € 800,- laptop died. Start up shows no screen only the led lights are working and some basic sound like the checking of the cd-rom drive are heard. No disk activity.

1. I'm not sure if this symptoms could point to a failure of the video card but I read a lot about it on internet and finally got into this forum.

2. Could anyone point me to the right area to solve this problems.

Great work opening a forum on this topic and really many thanks in advance!

Vic

Hello Vic and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

The problems you describe are an exact manifestation of the defect and coupled with the fact that your laptop contains an 8400 GPU, which is one of the more prolific of the defective GPU's, then I would say it is highly likely that your laptop is indeed inherently defective.

I have a few questions to see if I can help further.

1) Who did you purchase the laptop from?
2) How did you pay? (Cash/Debit/Credit Card)
3) Did you purchase in the UK?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

1) I purchased it via a webstore www.electronicagigant.nl which as I see now has stopped it's activaties - ohoh this is no good I guess...

2) How did you pay? (Cash/Debit/Credit Card)
I paid via Ideal which is a Dutch way to pay directly from your bank account (no cash, no credit card, I don't exactly know the word Debit but I'll guess it's that.

3) Did you purchase in the UK?
Nope in Holland

You're welcome!

Hello Vic,

Well, it doesn't look good for you.

The fact that the retailer has ceased trading is not good as is the fact that you paid by Ideal.

Due to the fact that you live in Holland I am unable to offer any advice as to what you can do.

I would advise that you do see some legal advice to see if you can pursue HP as being the manufacturer of the laptop.

I wish I could give you more definitive advice but sadly am unable to do so.

I do hope that you are able to reach a solution in this.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
