Hi

We bought an HP G6000 laptop for our daughter for Christmas 2007, purchased from Staples in Truro. A couple of weeks ago she completely lost her wireless connection - is this likely to be the nivdia defect? The serial numbers from the back of the laptop are s/n CNF743313Z and p/n GZ976EA#ABU. I've read the instructions as to what to do, but need to check this may be one of the faulty batch - think I read somewhere on here that this can be checked - but can't find that forum topic now!!

Hope you can help me out!

Ali

Hello Ali and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your daughters laptop has failed.

Looking at your serial number I can see that it was manufactured in China in week 43 of 2007. This was slap bang when all the defective GPU's were being used

Your laptop has the Nvidia 6100 GPU and is one of the GPU's that is failing in unusually large numbers

The good news is that you purchased from Staples, which is one of the better of the high street retailers so you should not have a problem with them.

I have heard a lot of good stories about the Truro branch and they have been very fair in the past.

Good luck with the next step and if you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul - thanks for replying so quickly.

Do you think its worth mentioning this forum in my initial letter to Staples?

Hello Ali,

Well it certainly won't harm your case. Staples as a company are well aware of this forum and the wealth
of information that is available here.

Also you can see that your particular model crops up again and again so the evidence is certainly there.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

I have a HP G6000 laptop, model numberKW327EA#ABU, S/N CNF81713V1, it has the NVidia GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M.

My wireless just stopped working and I can't find the device in device manager, is it likely that this is the problem.

I have contacted Staples and with an engineers report and proof of purchase they will be happy to look at my case, just hope I can find proof of Purchase.

Regards

Kev

Hello Kev and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your wireless has stopped working.

Loss of wireless is one of the fist manifestations of the defect and is the precursor to the failure of the video.

How did you pay for the laptop? If you paid by credit or debit card then a statement showing the purchase will suffice.

If you can remember the exact date of purchase you could always contact Staples and request a copy of the receipt.

Hope you can find some proof of purchase as this is vital for you to be able to pursue your claim.

Good luck and best wishes

Thank you for your reply Paul, in regard to this I have restored my computer to factory settings and reinstalled all the drivers and this seems to have worked, is it likely that this is the nvidia defect or some sort of driver problem.

Further update, wireless has gone again, would it be normal for it to start out as an intermittent fault and how would I know if I had one of the affected chipsets.

Regards

Kev

Hello Kev,

The wireless can indeed be intermittent up to the point that it fails completely. This shows that your laptop is on the fringes of failure.

Your laptop contains an Nvidia 7000 GPU and I have seen this fail many, many times previously.

It is therefore highly likely that your laptop is indeed inherently defective.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Best wishes
