Hi guy's

Recently found this forum from Google which looks excellent in solving my problem.

I purchased a HP DV9702EA Laptop on April 2008 from PC World. The laptop always sat stationary on the desk never moved. During start of January 2011 the laptop overnight just went. I shut it down fine one night, and next morning as I went to turn it on, I was faced with a black screen with grey fuzzy lines going down it. I fought this can't be right as the LCD to me looked perfect to me and it couldn't have inherited physical damage overnight. I connected an external monitor and had no joy. Sent the laptop away to HP Repair company that said it was the Graphic's Card on motherboard and would cost around £240 for new motherboard.

What do you think is best in getting the issue resolved?

It's a brilliant laptop with no signs of physical harm; paid good money for it, you'd expect more than two and half years from it surely.

Hope to hear soon, Thanks!

Hello Creanox and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

Well, I think it is a forgone conclusion that your laptop is inherently defective as the HP repair company have already confirmed this. All the problems you describe are manifestations of the defect.

Your next step is to contact PC World. They may tell you that you are out of warranty. You should tell them that the warranty status is irrelevant as you have six years in which to take action against the retailer when the goods in question are inherently defective.

They may then tell you to contact HP. You should tell them that you purchased from PC World and not HP so it is entirely PC Worlds responsibility to resolve the situation.

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you follow my advice in that guide then you will be successful.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Good luck and best wishes

Hi Again,

The HP repair company in England is returning the laptop to myself tomorrow, I've already incurred a cost of £25 for shipment to them and return again, that was at my expense. I phoned PC World earlier today and made it clear to them that "I'd contacted HP regarding the issue, and they basically said to contact yourselves (PC World)" I still have the original receipt of purchase so was able to provide all details to the PC World Customer Service team, they have raised it as a ticket and said I would be contacted in 48hours in relation to the matter. They understand that although its out of warranty I made it clear that the laptop was one of the defective models.

Will keep you posted on progress.

Thanks

P.S - Should I need evidence from the HP repair company to say they have checked the laptop over and diagnosed it as a Video Card issue?

Well, that would help you as it could remove the need for you to obtain an engineers report.

I would give them a call and see if they will give you something in writing and then pass that on to PC World.

Fingers crossed for you :x

Best wishes

That's great

Laptop should be back with me in the next few days. If no report with it ill surely give them a call and request one.

Reading though the step by step guide there, when asking for "head of paper to say that it is a new motherboard being used and is from a new batch & 100% free from the Nvidia defect" if the response "No" is it then you say about well can you "provide me with the part number of the mainboard being used, so you can check if its newly designed"?

Regards'

Hello Creanox,

Yes, firstly ask for the written guarantee and if they refuse then ask for the part number.

With that information we can check to see if it is a newly revised board or not.

Best wishes

Hi Paul,

Phone call returned from PC World 'Customer Solutions Team' today as promised. Had been advised to bring laptop to a nearby PC World store to have it checked to see if it does have the Nvidia defect. Advised them, that I'd already had the laptop looked at by company whom specializes in HP repairs based in England & they have confirmed it to have a GPU issue. Once I get laptop back from England, should be in next few days, I then have to e-mail the engineer report to the girl at Customer Solution Team, whom will then contact me back regarding issue.

The was small talk about repairing laptop or else replacing it with another laptop of same value.

They were aware of the defect though said that HP were the ones to contact and not them. Told them, it wasn't the case, my contract lies with PC World and not HP.

Keep you posted
Thanks Guys!

Paul,

During week I'd received the report & laptop back from 'CRM Laptops' based in England, whom tested the laptop and approved it failed due to the Nvidia defect. Had e-mailed a copy of the report to Customer Services' at PC World, awaiting their call back hopefully tomorrow or before Wednesday any-why on what they are willing to do in this case

Keep you posted.

Cheers!

Hello Creanox,

Let's hope that once they receive the report that they then comply with their obligations.

If they don't then please pop back here and let me know and I will advise further.

Fingers crossed for you. :x

Best wishes
