Hello Meg,

Now to wait for Monday.......

Fingers crossed for you for when they call. :x

Remember, just because your laptop doesn't have an Nvidia GPU doesn't mean to say that your laptop is not inherently defective.

The BGA grid is the culprit and this is the reason for the failure of your laptop.

Good luck and best wishes

Thanks Paul!

Am not holding my breath that he will call me tomorrow...because (as to use a previous quote) "he will have been away from the office for a few days so had lots of emails to work through"!

I really think we are slowly getting there....

thanks for your support - really helps me remain optimistic!

:b
The weekly instalment, as obviously PC World don't quite work to the timescales that the rest of us do:

Conversation this week on Tuesday (my call as he hadn't called). He had to speak to the store even after I had taken it in, as they identified a crack in the screen when i took it in (about 1cm long and not an issue for me!) - 3 days later he still hasn't called.
So i call tonight - he hasn't been able to get in touch.
As the lap top is not on their list or HPs of having an identified defect, they were offering me a free fixed price repair. I said that my IT guy at work had spoken to an HP engineer who said this was a common fault in this lap top and that repair even if possible was not financially viable.
PC World seemed to think it was viable.
I threw a strop and said this was getting absoultely ridiculous, I was offered money of different values, then i get told it's a repair only, no-one ever calls me back blah blah blah. He then offers £229 (cost of fixed price repair) as cash offer - I say this is nowhere near the £290 previously discussed - he says this is because of the screen, I say that is irrelevant.
He gets his manager to call me - she states the "we have made reasonable offer for repair" with a 90 day guarantee on the repair (oh woopidoo), and with a cracked screen this is more than reasonable.
I say not acceptable - she goes to £290 cash - but they want the old lap top back so i would need to take the data off the hard drive (and then says PC world can do this for @ £25 depending on the data!! As if!) and take it in store and they will give me the cash.

I have said I will sleep on this...

So my question is, does anyone think that this is now reasonable offer - I had also been previously offered as a good will gesture vouchers to cover the costs of my mobile calls, to date this is @ £30. So in summary I am being offered £260 and no lap top to flog as parts.

I so despair in their whole lack of customer service, and have got more and more frustrated - so can't think clearly - but do i just accept now.....??

Help!!!

Hello Meg,

The only problem I can see is the cracked screen.

PC World could argue that the laptop had been mistreated (I am not saying it was) and so that could be the reason for the current failure.

I did a quick calculation and based upon a five years life expectancy the refund would be in the region of £250 so their offer is in line with what you would expect.

You probably would not get much more if you went to court.

I based this calculation on the information that you supplied, which was £21 per month * 24 months = £504 paid for laptop.

To be honest I would be inclined to accept their cash offer and would draw a line under the matter.

It will only stress you out by continuing and you may not get much more if you did.

What do you think?

Best wishes

Ok - agreed the deal - £290 to be paid by BACS, will return lap top to store - but asked if i could keep my hard drive and that's no problem (amazingly enough) - so whilst a very painful 6 weeks I can finally breathe a sigh of relief (or will do once the money is in my account!).

Thanks Paul for all your help - it's been invaluable for someone who is so untechnologically minded!!

Best of luck to everyone else here - and will reiterate what i have said before and others too, don't give up, you will get there eventually!

Meg

Hello Meg,

Well done on your success :! :! :! :!

I am really pleased that you have reached a positive resolution after what has been a "painful 6 weeks".

It is also excellent news that you have been allowed to keep the hard drive. Dabs refuse all requests for this and I think I know why but am holding back on that for the moment.

I am really glad that you found us and that we were able to assist you.

Well done again Meg and all the very best for the future :! :!

Best wishes

Paul
