Laptop Make: HP
Model: dv6700
Graphics Card: 7600 GO
Purchased From: High Street Store
Amount Paid: 900
Date Purchased: 20 May 2008
Date Failed: 17 May 2010

My laptop recently failed, with some of the symptoms described on the forum. I'm not sure I can pursue the course of action that you guys have, due to the fact that I'm not from the united states (i'm from romania), but I did buy the laptop from there, exactly 2 years ago.

My laptop did not experience the wireless problem not was it bought in 2007, just overheating ( extreme overheating of the GPU ), random reboots, reboots after 2 seconds since boot, and now, total loss of picture ( black screen ). I also have the BIOS update in the drivers section on the HP website.

Moreover, I opened the laptop to clean the cooling fan myself a couple of months ago, because of the extreme temperatures, and because a service here, at a certified hp partner would have cost me $80 just for the diagnostic. I also believe that after I cleaned the fan, I used thermal paste only on the CPU, but not on the GPU..

I believe I should write a letter to Best Buy, ( the retailer from which i bought the laptop ) in the hopes of a solution, but I'm not sure that will do me very good, since I'm on another continent.

I hope you may have any ideas as to what course of action I should pursue.

Hello Alex and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your laptop.

How did you pay for the laptop?

If you paid by credit card then you would have extra protection as the card company is jointly responsible for the inherent defectiveness of your laptop.

I would start by writing a letter to Best Buy telling them that your laptop is inherently defective due to the Nvidia GPU.

Do you have any laws in your country similar to the UK's Sale Of Goods Act?

Please let me know and I will see if I can help you further.

Good luck and best wishes
