Hi All,

My HP 6735s Failed on me yesterday with the 5 flashing lights on the CAPS Lock light. It was purchased from eBuyer in January 2009. After stumbling across this forum, i see its a very common fault with this type of laptop.

It also had a problem with its battery which i replaced last year. :b

Alot of people have had to get technicians to examine the laptop, im not sure what the best route to take with this is.
I havent contacted ebuyer yet as their offices are only open 9-6 mon-fri.

Can anyone give me some advice on what to do?

:nh

Kindest Regards and Thanks,
Alfie

Hello Alfie and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

The problem with your laptop relates to the BGA grid on the underside of the laptop which fails causing the problems your are experiencing.

This, like the Nvidia defect, is also an inherent defect so you will be able to pursue a resolution.

You should now contact Ebuyer and should tell them that your laptop has failed due to what you believe to be an inherent defect under the ATI GPU.

They may tell you that your laptop is out of warranty and that there is nothing that they can do. You should tell them that the warranty status is irrelevant as you have six years from the date of purchase in which to bring an action against a retailer when the goods in question are inherently defective.

They may then tell you to contact HP. You should tell them that you purchased from Ebuyer and not from HP so it is entirely Ebuyer's responsibility to resolve the situation.

They will then probably tell you that you will have to provide an engineers report. When they do please let me know as this is a service we provide.

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you follow my advice in that guide then you will be successful.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Another one to add a tale of woe.

My HP6735s died a couple of weeks ago and I have raised the issue with Ebuyer through an enote and they just replied referring me back to HP.

Off to write the formal letter quoting SOGA now

Hello Hobgobin and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

Take absolutely no notice of Ebuyer when they tell you to contact HP. Your contract is with Ebuyer and not HP and I do wish they would refrain from fobbing their customers off in this way.

They may tell you that your laptop is out of warranty and that there is nothing that they can do. You should tell them that the warranty status is irrelevant as you have six years from the date of purchase in which to bring an action against a retailer when the goods in question are inherently defective.

Hi Paul. Ebuyer said all the things you said they would. They have told me If the product can be repaired then the sales of goods act says they are entitled to repair it before they replace, exchange or refund. If it's unrepairable then I'm entitled to an exchange / refund. Is this right because I said to them to go ahead with it. If it's wrong then I can call them back and say I've looked into the sales of goods act and they are wrong?? I don't know what to do. Alfie

Hello Alfie,

The difficulty with your particular model of laptop is that it has an ATI GPU rather than an Nvidia one so the request for a guarantee that the defect will not exist is not really applicable.

I would ask them how exactly they plan to repair your laptop. Will it be a new mainboard or will it be a re-balled GPU?

This is very important because a re-balled GPU is never as reliable as a GPU that is fitted at the time of manufacture.

In any event, you purchased the laptop in good faith and so should demand a brand new mainboard rather than a re-ball.

If they refuse to offer a new mainboard then I would refuse their offer of a repair.

You should get this guarantee before sending your laptop in.

I hope the above helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul,

Ive finally got through to talking to someone with Ebuyer after having my enotes and waiting in line on the phone. I am being asked to get a technicians report. I remember you said to me that you offer that as a service. Here is what they said:

"
Having looked into your query further I can advise that as per the Sales of
> Goods Act 1979 (as amended) you are able to have the item repaired or
> replaced up to 6 years. However, this only applies if you are able to
> provide proof that the item was purchased with an inherent fault or a fault
> that has occurred due to a manufacturing defect.
>
> The proof must be in the form of a technicians report, carried out by a
> certified technician at a registered company. The supplier of your technical
> fault report has to be agreed with Ebuyer prior to this being obtained;
> otherwise the report may not be accepted. If you are able to obtain this
> please forward this on marked for the attention of myself. Please note all
> fault reports are subject to the relevant checks upon receipt.
>
> If the fault is stated on the report to be an inherent fault or a fault that
> has occurred due to a manufacturing defect we can refund up to £25 towards
> the cost of the fault report back to you.
>
> The fault report must include the following:
>
> Details specific to the item (serial numbers etc so we can identify the
> product).
> Full details of the suspected fault.
> Full explanation and evidence to show why the suspected fault is due to the
> manufacturer and not to over use.
> Full details of all tests carried out on the item.
> Reasoning behind the final conclusion.
>
> The above requirements are compulsory and have to be provided to your
> technician; if the report does not contain all of the requested information
> it will not be accepted and you will not be reimbursed. Testing/diagnostics
> carried out to provide this fault report, must not permanently damage or
> alter the item in any way, as this will void all warranty covered by the
> manufacturer or under the Sale of Goods Act 1979.

"

I asked them on the phone if "Lapcure" are a company they accept reports form and they said yes. So ill just scan it in and send it to them after i recieve it. Could you email me with the details of where i need to send my laptop etc. my email address is <removed for privacy reasons>.

Kindest Regards
Alfie

Hello Alfie,

Well, that is good news as it means that you are now moving forward.

I hope you don't mind but I removed your email address from your post for privacy reasons. Also, when Google spiders this forum you will find that your email address will start to propagate the internet and as a result you could get a load of spam. Hope this is okay with you.

In order to proceed with an engineers report please take a look at the following post:- need-an-independant-engineers-report-t62.html

That explains everything about booking your laptop in for a report.

If you have any questions then please let me know.

Best wishes
