Hi,

I have a DV2535ea with the 8400m GPU, i bought his laptop in November 2007 and it has recently failed (3 years not bad i suppose).

I bought it from the original purchaser who got it from comet in September 2007, he passed me the receipt so no dispute it came from them, can you suggest any borderline legal methods i can use to go to them and get them to accept responsibility for it bearing in mind i am not the initial purchaser.......or am i fooked!

Stu.

Hello Stu and welcome to our forum.

If you are to make a claim against Comet then you will need to get the original purchaser to instigate the claim. Then the purchaser can request that all future communications be passed through yourself.

Unfortunately guarantees are not usually transferable so I cannot see that you would be able to make the claim yourself.

Are you able to contact the original purchaser and do you think he will be wiling to help?

How was the laptop paid for, was it cash or credit/debit card?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Paul

Hi thanks for the welcome,

I think it was paid for on a debit/ credit card looking at the reciept, the name and address of the purchaser is on the reciept, i was thinking about doing a 192.com in an attempt to track him down............sneakily i called comet yesterday and gave the details on the reciept they have them on their system so no dispute there!

Hello Stu,

To be honest you will need to try and contact the original purchaser as I could not advise you to proceed with a claim as if you were him.

The DV2535 is one of the more prolific of the failing laptops and one that I have produced the most reports on.

HP released a BIOS update for your model of laptop that switched the fans on 24/7 so they have, in part, publicly acknowledged the fact that your laptop has the potential to overheat.

You could always send the purchaser a letter asking that he get in touch. You may have to give him a bit of a cut on any financial resolution that you may receive as an incentive for him to help you.

What do you think?

Best wishes

Yes good advice, hopefully he still lives there, I too was thinking along the lines of a few £££ to help me out.

If I have to go to court better to be above board, at least I know that my model is more than likely to have suffered failure.

If I make contact I will let you know.
