Hi...orignially posted this on US site which was similar then found link to this one.

I brought a G6000 in May 07. It has since developed several faults and any help is appreciated

The fan is constantly coming on and the laptop regularly becomes hot even after a short space of time. TBH this occurs from early on but i didnt realise it was uncommon until I saw my boyfriend used his laptop...his never does it!

Since at least September one of the USB ports hasnt worked

The audio drivers keep uninstalling and reinstalling themselves periodically. Generally I have a red x icon by my speaker and have no sound. A few months may go by and then I suddenly have sound only for it to go again after a few days.

The battery life is non existant and I have recently had to buy a power cable after the other one packed up.

A repair man did a software reinstall and told me the speaker problem was prob hardware as he couldnt even enable and disable the speaker in Bios (doesnt mean a thing to me!). He also said the USB was definately hardware. I forgot to mention the fan problem.

Any ideas on how to proceed? I have had a quick read but am very confused! Tesco who I brought it from are sending me a form to describe out of warranty problems.

Hello onadietcokebreak,

Your laptop sounds like it is riddled with problems.

The G6000 is known to suffer from the Nvidia defect and some of the problems you describe sounds like manifestations of this defect.

It does also sound like it has other problems but the only one that is important is the inherent one.

Tesco will probably offer you £250 without problems for your laptop.

Whether or not you accept this is up to you, but I would press them for more.

Wait till they write to you and then please let me know what they say and I will advise you further.

If you have any questions or queries then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

Thank you very much.

How shall I put the fault? How do I know if its inherent?

Spoke to ex partner today (who is doing a letter asking tescos to deal with me)

He remembers thats its always overheated! Its slow at booting too.

When i am complaining to Tescos does it matter that my laptop is still work?

Fan kicks in every minute or 2. Its only a matter of time til it dies isnt it?

Hello Onadietcokebreak,

Have you obtained an engineers report on your laptop yet?

You are going to need to get one of these at some stage if not as you will need to prove that your laptop is inherently defective.

I think that because of the number of different faults that you state your laptop has that it will really need to be evaluated to see if if does indeed have the defect or if in fact the problems you are experiencing are related to something else completely.

The fact that your fans "kick in every minute or so" does not necessarily mean that your laptop will fail imminently, they could just be clogged with dust etc which is quite common.

I would advise you that you confirm the defect first before pursuing Tesco further.

If you have any questions then please let me know.

Best wishes

Hi not obtained a report yet but planning on speaking to the technican that looked at it .

Im still left with the issue of the hardware USB and audio drivers that Tescos are accountable for.

I just get the feeling Im the one who is going to be left £370 out of pocket and with no laptop.

Hi Going to take laptop back to my local technican.

Today the laptop went blank after 15 mins. Had to turn off and power button.

Let it cool for a moment and tried turning on. Keeps switiching on in cycles and cutting out.

Removed battery and waited 30 mins. Its now booting up.

I really am not looking forward to dealing tescos after hearing cushley update and I fear I will be unlucky in being compensated.

Hello onadietcokebreak,

It does sound like your laptop is riddled with problems doesn't it?

Do not worry about dealing with Tesco, just treat them like any other company and you will be successful.

If your laptop is indeed inherently defective, rather than just faulty, then you really cannot lose.

Good luck and please keep us updated with your progress.

Best wishes

Hi Paul.

this is the enginners report. He has forgotten to mention about the speaker- I will ask him to add this on.
Faults
1x USB Port not working. PC
overheating.Battery no longer
holding charge.Screen freezing
& computer keeps powering
off after booting. Slow boot up
& intermittant switching off.

Comments
Possible Hardware/Graphics card
faults. USB slot & battery failure.
Recommend replacement of
faulty components if obtainable.
May even need new motherboard
or laptop as BIOS updates fail.

Can you make suggestions on how I approach this with Tescos? To be honest I would just be happy with a couple of hundred quid now. The laptop is working and I may be able to afford a new one before I start Uni. I dont what a repair unless they can promise me that the graphics card isnt inherently faulty.

Thanks
