Hello White0567 and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of all the problems you are experiencing with your laptop.

The receipt is not really that important. All you have to be able to do is to prove purchase. If you paid by credit or debit card then you could show a statement with the transaction listed.

You could also give them the date of purchase and ask for a copy receipt. They will have this information so don't let them fob you off.

There is a step by step guide available on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

I would not accept another repair. I think it has already been proved that repairs simply don't work - even when the mainboard is replaced.

If you have any questions or need any advice then please let me know.

Good luck and Best wishes

Paul

dear paul
thank you for the support,i did fellow your guide after about 2 mths i received a call from comet on 21/09 said 'After reviewing the matter I am able to advise you have offered a replacement laptop, and If you wish to accept this offer please call xxxxx we will send this laptop to you', and they gave me a product code. I searched from comet website it's toshiba L650-123 £549.99. I don't really like AMD processor so i called them back on 23/09 said 'i don't really like AMD processor so can i change it to toshiba L650-19P £629.99?' and the lady told me' you can change to toshiba L650-19P, but you have to pay £80, because your replacement's budget is £549.99.' because i've no laptop to use about 2 mths so i did accept the offer, then the lady told me 'somebody will call you in next 24 hours about the delivery' i waited for "somebody's call "until 28/09. i called them back, and they said ' i'm really sorry about this, because we are very busy right now, somebody definitily will contact you in next 24 hours.' so i waited another 2 days called them back, and they said 'i'm sorry the product now is out of stock, you have to chose another product and call us back , and we will send it to you' i'm very unhappy about this. because i spent £699.99 for the HP laptop now they told me my replacement budget is £549.99. if i chose any product over the budget then i have to pay for the different. so what can i do now? do i have to pay for the £80 if i chose toshiba L650-19P?
Many thanks

Hi White0567,

One thing you need to consider is the fact that £550 now will probably buy you a much higher specified laptop than £699 would have in 2007.

Bear in mind that, providing they are offering you the same specifications (or better) as your faulty laptop, then they are fulfilling their obligations under the SoGA - price doesn't really come into it.

Hello White0567,

I agree with Ciderboy in that £550 will get you much more now that it would in 2007.

To be honest their offer is very fair and you are only losing £150 for just over 2 years use. If they allow you to keep the laptop then that would be even better as you could sell it on Ebay as faulty for around £100 - £125.

I would accept their offer and then you can draw a line under the matter.

Any questions please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul
