Hi all ,

About a week ago my wireless suddenly stopped working , the orange light stayed on no matter where the switch was and in device manager it didnt recognise there was a card installed. So not knowing about this nvidia defect I went down the route of replacing the pci-e wifi card , this did not fix the problem. Seeing as everything else seemed to be working I just bought a usb wifi nano dongle which is working fine. But now over the last few days the graphics seem to be playing up , basically every now and then the screen will keep changing on its own like changing resolution and size and make a noise (the same noise you get when you plug something in). After reading this site I have a bad feeling I have the defect. To be able to claim would I have to wait till the graphics go completely?
Also another problem I have is the fact that I didnt buy the laptop , my girlfriend bought it for me for xmas 07 but she got a mutual friend to get it for her. Im not sure how he paid but am trying to find out asap, I do have the receipt (not a card one though) but it has his name and old address on it , so how would this affect my claim? and how should I start ?

Any advice would be great , many thanks

lloyd

p.s. this is an amazing site , glad I googled my problem now.

this is a HP G6000 (G6031EA)
s/n CNF74549BW
has an nvidia go 6100 card

Hello Lloyd and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop is failing.

You do not need to wait for it to fail completely as the loss of wireless is the first manifestation of the defect so it is easy to prove that your laptop is indeed inherently defective.

Your only problem is that the only person who can pursue this is the person named on the receipt.

You are going to need to contact him and get him to contact the store and then authorise them to deal with you. That way you can then continue the claim.

I realise that this can be a bit of a pain but it is an unfortunate necessity.

So your first step is to contact your friend and get him to start the claim and then pass the claim over to you.

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

There is also a template letter on here that you can get your friend to complete and send to the retailer and that is here:- Proxy_letter.pdf

I hope the above helps.

Any questions please let me know.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
