Laptop Make: Dell

Hey guys!

Nice forum here all information is presented in a clear and unambiguous manner!!!

Today my laptop failed completely! Although I remember having issues with my graphic card since 2010, usually it recovered on its own (miracle)!

Here are the specs:

Computer Model XPS M1710
Shipping Date 25/10/2008
Country United Kingdom
Components
QuantityDescription
1N10X7102
1XPS M1710 CORE 2 DUO PROCESSOR T7400 (2.
117" ULTRASHARP WIDE SCREEN WUXGA (1920 X
1UK/IRELAND - POWER CORD
1ENGLISH - SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION
1INSPIRON RESOURCE DVD - (DIAGNOSTICS & D
14GB 667MHZ DUAL CHANNEL DDR2 SDRAM (2X 2
1HARD DRIVE 320GB SATA (5400RPM)
1FIXED INTERNAL 8X DVD+/-RW DRIVE INCLUDI
1130W AC ADAPTER
1BATTERY PRIMARY 9-CELL 80W/HR LI-ION

I am really disappointed as the monitor is incredibly good and this model doesn't have the overheating problem as the new XPS laptops which my dad and friends own.

All the data is on that hard drive and I am ****** as need it to do my work etc.

What I would ask for is a significant discount on a new laptop, say I would ask for a new XPS for a 1/3 or 1/4 of a price or something. Do you think that will work ? (I am a loyal dell customer ..) As I have noticed on the forum that they do not guarantee anything when doing repairs.
The problem is that I need a laptop ASAP :(

I will follow the guides posted here step by step and start with calling dell tomorrow. Ill post an update as soon as I get something.

If you have any advice, I would strongly appreciate it.

Regards and thanks for this forum,

Slava.

Hello Slava and welcome to my forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

Your laptop contains an Nvidia 7900 GPU, revision GF-GO7900-G8HN-A2.

Whilst this GPU is not as prolific as the 8400 and 8600 GPU's it is still failing due to the defect.

In fact, if you take a look at the following link you will see that Dell have admitted to the defect in your model of laptop:-

In order to me to find out further information please could you let me know the service tag of your laptop as it could be that your laptop has also had the dreaded BIOS update.

Once I know that I will advise further.

Best wishes

Paul
