Hi all,
I have unfortunately accepted 3 repairs from Dell, my extended warranty expired at the end of May and the flickering white lines have returned despite being advised by a 'Manager' i spoke to (in India I think) that the new mobo's they were using had resolved the issue.
I feel stupid but am ready to kick up a mighty big stink. Will the fact that i have already had 3 repairs affect a refund claim? In all honesty I would prefer a replacement with the same spec but i don't know how likely that is.
Apologies if this is not the place to post this!
I'd really like to speak to someone in the Uk so i can get my point acrosse correctly as the last time i tried the Dell Premium Support line it took 3 call handlers to understand what i was talking about.

Any recommendations would be really helpful, I'd really like to give Dell the chance to refund/replace without resorting to the last chance letters as they've performed each of the three repairs without question.

Thanks in Advance

Hello Brian and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your laptop.

The fact that you have have 3 failed repairs to your laptop is testament to the fact that these laptops cannot be repaired no matter how many times they change the boards.

The simple fact is, in my opinion all the chips are bad! The 8400's, the 8600's the 7???? series and the 6???? series.

Nvidia have made NO NEW CHIPS to replace the defective ones so any "fix" that may have been done will only relate to the fans and the thermal control.

You have not invalidated your right to a refund, in fact you have heightened your chances as why would you want to accept another repair?

I would contact Dell again and ask for their UK registered address where you can send legal correspondence.

Once you have that address you should send a letter before action to them. A template is available on this site and that is here:- letterbeforeaction.pdf

You should download that, edit it with your details and send it via recorded delivery to the address they gave you.

This gives them seven days to comply and either refund or replace your laptop. If they fail to respond within seven business days you should then obtain an engineers report which will prove the inherent defectiveness of your laptop.

Please let me know when you are ready to proceed with the report as that is a service we provide.

There is also a step by step guide available on this forum that will help you reach a successful resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you have any questions or if you need any help or advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

Hi again, I contacted Dell (India) and stated my case after some discussion and waiting for call backs i was eventually offered a replacement. I requested an email detailing the spec of the offered machines.
I accepted their offer of an Alienware m15x with like for like or better spec. I put the spec through the dell configuration tool and the total cost came out at just over £1380!! The m15x is not small and it's not light weight but it is considerably more expensive than my M1330.

A courier is scheduled to deliver my new laptop tomorrow and take the old broken one away.

If it actually goes ahead i will have been saved the trouble of taking them to court and i'll have a bang up to date and very powerful gaming laptop.

Fingers crossed!

Thank you so much for all your help, I don't think i would have pushed as hard without the help you gave me!

Hello Brian.

Well done on your success :! :! :! :!

What a fantastic result for you - a very nice laptop as well.

It is, to be honest, quite amazing that they offered such a high spec laptop as a replacement.

I am really glad we could have helped you.

Good luck and best wishes for the future.

That's great. My graphics card for my M1530 finally failed in July, and I called Dell, and they decided to replace it. Unfortunately, I didn't know I could get a written letter from them stating that the problem should be fixed. So far I have not had any problems, but I am not totally confident the problem will not occur again. If it does, I hope I will have as much success as you. :!
