Hey there
I purchased a zoostorm laptop from pc nextday in oct 07. Last year the wireless stopped working and then afew months ago the screen just went black. I tried turning it on most days to see if it was sti the same, then one day last month I turned it on and it came on! Unfortunatly the colours and resolution of the screen were very low and there was pixelation all over the screen. I tried everything possible on the software side of things to no avail so did some googling and found out about the defect on the cards.
I emailed pc nextday explaining my problem and they replied saying they will collect the laptop and repair it With a motherboqrd that was free fom tjw defect aslong as there was no damage to the machine.
they collected last week and have since emailed me saying tjey have found signs of a spillage in the maxhine, and even attached pictures that are definately genuine and have said that it voids the repair and it will now cost me £182 for them to repair it with parts free from the defect. Iv tried explaining that nvidia have admitted that all of those cards are inherently defective, and that the symptoms the machine is suffering are consistent with the defective gpu and not the spillage yet they are not having it and insist the spillage damaged connections causing the display fault.
Do you think I should ask for the machine to be sent back, get an independant engineers report to prove the cause of the fault and then go to the small claims, or have I not got a leg to stand on. Really can't afford that repair bill atm so it may just be sold for spare parts, which would be such a shame.
Any advice is much appreciated and thanks for your time; )

Hi Skudz,

Were you aware of any spillage over the laptop before sending it off?

We've seen reports like this before although I don't think anyone has been sent the photos before - can you post the photos here so we can have a look.

It'll make things a bit more difficult but, assuming that a rework test brings the laptop back to life, then I would have thought that you still have a valid claim.

I'm sure that Paul will put me right here if I'm incorrect but I wouldn't expect a rework test to fix a problem caused by a spillage.

Hey ciderboy, thanks for the reply
can't post the photos as I'm having to access net on my phone lol. There's 5 in all, 4 are of some sort of sticky stain on different unimportant parts of the chassis but one is a pic of the motherboard named 'spillage on the tracks'. Me and a friend in the know have scrutinised the pic and can't even see a spillge on it, plus its not on an area that would affect the gpu in this way.
Anyway I have explained this to pcnd and that I would rather not go to rhe small claims as I'm in a rush to get my machine back and working so if they can give me a better offer for the repair I will pay it to save hassle. I know it goes against the principle but I really do need it back lol.
will keep u updated on their reply

Hello Skudz and welcome to our forum.

I have heard many, many times of alleged "spillage" on the mainboard. I have also inspected most of those laptops that had the alleged spillage and on no occasion could I come to the same decision that the retailer had.

I have to say that you would be most unwise to pay for a repair to the laptop as there can be no guarantees that the repair will last.

Are PCND prepared to give you a written guarantee that the repair will be 100% free from the Nvidia defect?

This is vital should you decide to pay for the repair and then at some point in the future the defect rears its ugly head!

I appreciate that you are in a rush to get your laptop back, but I do advise you think long and hard before paying for a repair. At the end of the day you were sold a laptop that was doomed to fail prematurely so why on earth should you have to pay a penny towards a repair?

At the end of the day it is up to you as to what you decide to do, all I can do is offer you unbiased advice.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Best wishes

Paul
