Hello Neleh66 and welcome to our forum.

Is it a Dell laptop that you have or a Compaq?

Please let me know how much you paid and I will calculate whether their offer is good or not.

Best wishes

Hello Nel,

I am a little confused. Dell and Compaq are two separate companies so the make cannot be Dell with the model being Compaq F765.

It is either a Dell or a Compaq. I will take a stab at it being a Compaq.

Based on the information that you have provided I calculate that the minimum they should be offering you is £196.

This does not include the cost of your report. As a matter of interest, who did you get the report from? £68 is an unusual amount for a report.

Best wishes

After a week of correspondence with the Customer Services Dept - their latest offer is £247

Your advice on if this is a good offer - or should we pursue further down the small claims court / Credit Card S75?

Hello Neleh66,

Does the £247 include the cost of the engineers report? If so it is still on the low side. I calculate that their offer, including the report, should be in the region of £261 so they are around £14 short of the minimum that you should receive.

To be honest I would give them a call to see if they will increase to the minimum and I would then settle.

If they refuse I would still consider settling as it is not worth your while pursuing it further for the little bit extra that you will receive.

It is still a good result considering that at the end of the day it is just an expensive door stop at the moment.

What do you think?

Best wishes
