Hi guys,

firstly, this forum has been a huge source of information for me so far in getting sorted with this plague of a laptop i was unfortunate enough to spend a lot of money on. Thanks for all the help, letter templates etc etc.

A brief bit of info on my case,

I bought an affected DV2000 laptop a few years ago and had it fail on me within about 8 months. It was brought to Dixons and they had it a couple of weeks. when i was returned to me it was still exhibiting the same intermittent fault as before. Screen flashing when first turned on and sometimes not coming on at all. This later developed into a total failure when trying to boot and instead i got the beep codes. If i left it to get hot and restarted then the display would come back to life temporarily. it wound never boot from cold.

I brought it to the store but since its out of warranty they weren't able/willing to help. I wrote to the head office with my conplaint and 18 days later i have no word back from them. I have filled out a form for the small claims court but havent sent it yet.

Im looking to compile all the information necessary to hand over to the court if needed so id be very grateful if anyone wound point me in the right direction as i feel there is not going to be any satisfactory resolution at this stage and the court is my last option.

thanks in advance. :)

Hello Sectre and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

There are a number of things that you MUST do before filing a claim.

Firstly, have you obtained an engineers report yet that proves conclusively that your laptop is inherently defective?

If so, have you sent a copy of that report to the retailer along with a letter before action?

If not then please do not file your claim just yet as you would not have followed the right protocol and could jeopardise your claim.

There is a step by step guide on this forum that will help you reach a positive resolution and that is here:- post13.html#p13

If you follow my advice in that guide then you will be successful.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

thank you lapcure,

No i haven't had an independent engineers report done yet but i do have a repair docket from dixons themselves from the previous attempted repair which i also sent to the head office with my letter before action. I can obtain one no problem if its necessary for the case.

thanks for the link, I'll give that a read through now. :)
