Hello James and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your laptop.

Under no circumstances should you pay Comet to look at your laptop and you should instead seek an independent report.

We can help you with that and have had great success with our reports. For more information please take a look here:- need-an-independant-engineers-report-t62.html

Once you have the report you should send Comet a copy along with a final letter before action which gives them seven days to comply.

If they fail to comply in that time then you should sue them. If your laptop is indeed inherently defective then you really cannot lose.

Comet are handling this problem atrociously and have been voted the worse retailer of the year award by this forums members.

If you have any questions or if you need any advice then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul

thanks for your input,

i have sent an engineers report off to comet who are still insisiting on me paying for the item to be inspected. i have told them they are more than welcome to look at it but i will not be paying for it.
how do i go about placing a small claims action against them?

cheers
james

How scandalous is that?

Does your report state that your laptop is inherently defective?

If so then they have absolutely no right whatsoever trying to charge you to insect the laptop.

Sure, they can inspect your laptop to verify the contents of the report, but this has to be done entirely at their expense.

You shouldn't pay Comet a penny and you should tell them that they breaching your Statutory Rights and your rights under the Sale Of Goods Act in trying to do so.

You will need to go to www.moneyclaim.gov.uk to file your claim.

This guide will help you file your claim online:- topic163.html
