Hello Koshia,

Quote:
Asus keeps stating that the unit is out of warranty, they are unable to help and will not repair the unit for free. If I have any further questions regarding the repairs or process I am welcome to ask them. Otherwise they cannot help me.

How absolutely scandalous is that?

Asus really need to wake up and smell the coffee instead of trying to continually fob their loyal customers off.

In my opinion their behaviour is not befitting of the company that they are and is more akin to a back street, here today gone tomorrow organisation.

Have you obtained an engineers report yet that states your laptop is indeed inherently defective? If you have then file your claim and sue them; It really is the only language these companies understand.

If not then you should get this first before commencing legal action.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

Laptop Make: Asus
Model: G1S
Graphics Card: 8400M GS
Amount Paid: 1800
Date Purchased: 01 Oct 2007
Date Failed: 21 Oct 2008
Backstory:

I bought an ASUS G1S from Best Buy in October of 2007, it died by late October 2008. ASUS would do nothing for me since the warranty at Best Buy was only a 1 year warranty to push replacement plans on customers while all other dealers came with a 2 year warranty.

Currently:

I recently bought a new motherboard for the unit for about $350. I am thinking of filing a claim in small claims here for the amount, my skilled labor in replacing it and the cost of filing the claim. Incidentally, I am just down the road from my fellow Iowans in Iowa City, purchased from the Coralville Best Buy.

Hello Fdelin and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear that your laptop has failed.

I would certainly lodge a claim with Asus for all the costs you have incurred. I worry though that the mainboard that you have purchased could also contain a defective GPU.

Have you checked to ensure that the GPU is one of the "newly revised" ones?

If you can let me know the numbers off the GPU I will be able to tell you.

Best wishes

Paul
