My gf's laptop (f3sv) is pretty much dead. It boots to windows, runs about a min or two, then the screen fills up with artifacts and then it restarts and keeps trying to boot indefinitely. I purchased the the laptop from newegg with my debit card and then she gave me the money afterward. I guess the contract is between me and the newegg, but i don't know if there is a law in the US that states the 6 year thing. Laptop was purchased October 07 and it died a week ago. The laptop had a 2yr manufacturer warranty. I contacted the manufacturer and asked them that if the gpu is found to be defective, if i would have to pay for the repairs. they told me that i still had to pay it since the laptop is out of warranty.

what should i do? my gf just wants to buy another laptop, but i think it is a shame to have bought a laptop 3 yrs ago for about $1200 and have it be useless now.

Hello Medo145 and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your laptop.

There have been plenty of members on this forum who have complained about Asus and the treatment they have received.

You will need to be persistent with Asus if you are to reach a positive resolution.

As you live in the States I am unable to advise on the laws in your country so I would advise that you seek some legal advice to see what action you can take.

The GPU in your laptop, the Nvidia 8600 is one of the more prolific of the defective GPU's so you should not have a problem proving your case.

The only problem you may have is to make Asus sit up and listen and I feel that you may only be able to do that if you take legal action.

I am sorry that I am unable to give you more definitive advice.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
