Hi all

In Nov 07 I bought 2 x HP G6031EA from Staples
Rather annoyingly, one died a slow death about a month ago, and now the other has!

I emailled Staples and they gave clear instructions - thanks to this site all seems easy to do!

My only gripe is, I know no computer engineers or companys - I used both machines for personal business use and the hard drives have important personal documents - including accounts on.

Now im not alone I know here, but I am loathed to just hand over my life (x2) to an engineer.....and apparently if successfull I must give Staples the faulty laptops.

I spoke to one engineer, and he said the hard drives must remain inside the laptop.

I wish I could remove/keep both internal drives and stilll have a successful claim?

LAPCURE: do you need the HDD's for the report?

MANY THANKS GUYS

failling that,

I am tempted to format the HDD (as I pluggged into/retrieved data)

But I would assume an engineer when testing the laptop could note "No operating system on primary hard drive"

then of course HP / Staples could go down the "its not the Nvidia chip as you have a frazzled HDD"???!?!

Hello CJacko and welcome to our forum

Sorry to hear that your laptops have failed.

The good news is that you have purchased from one of the best high street retailers so unlike some of the other retailers they will not mess you around.

I do not need the hard drives in the laptops in order to be able to test and produce the report. If the hard drive was in place with an operational copy of Windows then I could take some temperature readings, but this is not vital.

Staples have also been letting their customers keep the defective laptop so that would also raise you a further £100 - £125 in their current condition on Ebay.

I hope the above helps.

If you have any questions then please let me know.

Best wishes

Paul
