Well, this one will be brief compared to the majority of your posts that ive been reading through on here!

My 2 year old Vaio VGNNR32s suddenly lost its display on its own monitor and when connecting it to an external source via the VGA output.

I browsed the net, found this site and so started what i thought would be my eipc battle with Argos and sent them the initial letters all be it via e-mail.. but having worked for Sony's product support in a supervisory role a few years back, i thought it would be best to send over a quick email to my old team to see if they could be arsed to help or just give the standard crappy copy and paste answers they are told to...

Well, believe it or not, i've had success from BOTH sides!!
Argos phoned me and said to take my laptop down to my local store with a special code they gave me and my original receipt / proof of purchase (which i didn't have) and i would be given a £250 voucher no questions asked... and im certain if i had complained further that offer would have been increased... incredible really when that model isnt even listed by Sony as one of the defective models.

And then Sony called me back later the same day! (this was on a Monday having only submitted my complaints to both parties on the Friday evening)
They have advised that, although my model isn't listed as containing the defective chips, they would be happy to come over, pick it up and send it off to their repair centre where providing it is the Graphics GPU that has failed it will be repaired free of charge!!

Got picked up yesterday, and have so far only had my confirmation text through to say it has arrived at the repair centre....
I doubt my luck would be so great the whole way through this so I am dreading the phone call advising me that its some made up error that they found that is chargeable etc etc.. but WE will cross that bridge when WE come to it, ay?!

Sony via their Vaio Support website - http://support.sony-europe.com/contacts ... =odw_en_GB -

Will let you all know as and when it happens and hopefully type my final reply in 5 working days time on my **working again** VGN-NR32S!

FYI - Sitting here typing on my second laoptop my Sony VGNAR51J, whilst my Sony kdl-60lx903 TV is sitting quietly on pause of my Sony PS3's Black Ops game... i Did have to remove my Sony mdr-rf800rk headphones as my ears where getting a little tostie.. and not to forget the Sony ICFCL75IPB.CEK iPhone dock sitting on my shelf..

^ I included that very same message in my Vaio Support request. In all seriousness, within the standard procedure for email responses from Sony's customer support based in Kingston, Surrey, if the customer exhibits a genuine love for the Sony BRAND then the matter if not fixable in the first instance is to be passed directly onto their senior support staff based in Basingstoke... I would recommend writing your own little statement as i did above and you would be surprised at how efficiently your matter is dealt with!

Hello Chrispyrice and welcome to our forum.

It is excellent news that Argos have paid you £250 "no questions asked" - how very decent of them and not something you see happen very often so well done to Argos for that.

I actually think that Sony will repair your laptop for free, but I wouldn't hold your breath at them updating their wholly inadequate list just yet.

I also wonder what parts they will use when repairing your laptop. The defect affects laptops "in the field" and their spare parts so it will be interesting to see what they use.

Fingers crossed you get years more service from your laptop :x

Thanks for the tip in your post, I hope that helps others.

I am looking forward to your next update with hopefully good news that you have had a free repair.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
