Ok, bought mine from currys couple of years back.. First it stopped playing DVDs then the Cam stopped working then it started over heating something evil (cant put it on my legs at all.. seems naff for a "laptop") And now it sounds like its taking off everytime i turn it on AND sometimes turns itself off again. I've treated it very carefully as i dont know when i'll ever be able to afford a new one but it just seems to be coming apart piece by piece. Any advice?

Hello Zahariel and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to hear of the problems you have experienced with your laptop.

Firstly, your laptop does not contain an Nvidia GPU so it is not affected by this defect.

The overheating and shutting off can be easily solved as it is probably caused by blocked fans and heatsink.

On the underside of your laptop you should see a removable panel. If you are a little bit handy with a screw driver then you should do the following:-

1) Unplug the charger from the laptop and remove the battery
2) Remove the larger of the panels on the underside of the laptop.
3) You will then see the heat sink assembly and fan. Remove the screws holding the heatsink in place.
4) Thoroughly clean the heat sink and remove any dust that may exist in the grilles. Also check that there is no dust in the fan.
5) Clean off any dried thermal paste from the CPU and GPU and then apply some fresh thermal paste.

This should then resolve the overheating problem.

Regarding the Cam not working, is this device still visible in the Device Manager and is there an exclamation mark over the device?

Regarding the DVD, does it play CD's or does it not read disks at all?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul
