Hello Alcibar and welcome to our forum.

Your laptop contains an Nvidia 8400 GPU (GPU REV G86-630-A2) which is widely reported as being defective and is failing in huge numbers.

The GPU in your laptop is on a removable PCI-E card and is easily accessible via the removable panel on the underside of your laptop.

If you feel confident using a screwdriver then there is an easy way in which to determine whether the graphics card is at fault and this will also get the laptop back up and running again (albeit for an indeterminable amount of time).

Before you do anything please ensure that you have removed the mains adaptor and the battery prior to commencing with the following.

I have found a You Tube video that shows you how to remove the card and that can be found here:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWy_lfNoRSw

Once you have removed the card you should clean off any excess thermal paste from the GPU. Next, using a hair dryer on its hottest setting you should heat the card for around sixty seconds.

Once you have done that you should allow the GPU to cool down until it is cold.

Next, apply a little thermal paste to the GPU and then reassemble the laptop.

I am sure that you will find that once you have done that your laptop will work once again.

When the laptop fails again you should consider taking action against the retailer, though to be honest I am unsure of the laws in your country so am unable to advise on that.

Please let me know how you get on with the above.

Best wishes

Paul

Hello Alcibar,

Initially you stated "....when i put an other screen shows me good(not very well),"

Do you mean that the external display works but is corrupt or does it display okay?

It is not unusual for the external display to work whilst the LCD panel does not so it is difficult to pinpoint the cause of the problem.

If you stare hard at the LCD panel can you see a very faint image?

Does the LCD panel illuminate at all?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Hello Alcibar,

Based on the information you provided above I would say that the GPU in your laptop is indeed the root cause of the problem.

If it was the LCD panel that was faulty then you would not see a change when you reduced the screen resolution.

I would therefore advise that you now start a claim against the retailer.

The only stumbling block now is that you live in Greece. Did you purchase the laptop in Greece or here in the UK?

Please let me know and I will advise further.

Best wishes

Hello Alcibar,

As you purchase in Greece I am unable to advise on your legal rights as I am unsure of the laws in your country.

Did you pay by credit card? If so you may be able to pursue the card company.

I would advise that you seek some free legal advice to see if there are any legal avenues that you can pursue before proceeding with your claim.

I am sorry that I am unable to advise on your legal rights and this is mainly due to the fact that here in the UK we are protected by the Sale Of Goods Act which unfortunately doesn't extend to yourself in Greece.

I would advise that you ascertain whether or not there is a similar law that can help you.

Good luck with your claim and please keep us updated on your progress.

Best wishes

Hello Alcibar,

I would suggest that if you do purchase a new card that you ask for a guarantee that it will not have the defect.

The trouble is, this defect is present in both laptops and in their respective spare parts and so it is quite possible that you could purchase a card that is also inherently defective.

I would also ensure that you make payment by credit card as this will give you more protection should things go wrong.

Good luck and fingers crossed for you. :x

Best wishes
